privacy policy

short version: your chats live on your phone, and we don't want them.

on this page

who we are#

Fuku is made by Vibiz (vibiz.ai). If you have any question about this policy or your data, email support@heyfuku.com.

the short version#

No accounts. No ads. No tracking or analytics SDKs. Your chats are stored on your device. Messages are sent to our server only to generate your friend's reply, and are not kept afterwards.

what stays on your device#

Your chat history, your friend's name, vibe and avatar, your name, XP, levels, streaks, quests, and any photos you attach are stored locally in the app's storage on your phone. We cannot see them. Deleting the app, or using Delete everything in Settings, wipes them.

what leaves your device, and why#

When you send a message, the app sends the following to our server (api on our website) to generate a reply:

  • the recent conversation (text, plus up to the 3 most recent photos you attached);
  • your friend's persona (name and vibe) and your first name;
  • your current local time, so replies fit your day.

With each request the app also sends a random device identifier created the first time you use the app. It is not your Apple ID, not an advertising identifier, and not linked to your identity. It is used only for daily message limits and abuse prevention.

Our server passes the conversation to an AI model (see section 7) and sends the reply back to your phone. That's it.

what our server keeps#

  • No message content. We do not store what you or your friend say.
  • A daily counter per device: a salted hash of the random device identifier (never the raw value) and a message count. It expires automatically within 48 hours.
  • Hosting logs: our host (Vercel) keeps standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, status code) for a short period for security and reliability. These logs never contain message text.
  • Safety counts: automated moderation results (a category flag, never the text) may be counted in aggregate, together with the hashed device identifier and a timestamp.

reported messages#

If you tap Report on a message, that message and up to 6 messages before it are sent to us, along with the reason you chose and any note you add, so a human can review it and improve safety. Reports are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted. This is the only case where we keep message text, and only because you chose to send it.

who processes data for us#

We use a small number of service providers, each only to run Fuku:

  • Vercel Inc. (USA): hosting and serverless functions for our website and API.
  • OpenRouter, Inc. (USA): routes each request to the AI model and returns the reply.
  • OpenAI (USA): the model provider currently generating replies and running safety moderation, reached through OpenRouter.
  • Upstash, Inc. (USA): stores the hashed daily counters and, if you send one, your report.

We use provider settings that opt out of training on our traffic where available, and OpenRouter prompt logging is disabled for our account. If the model provider changes, we will update this list.

no tracking#

No advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics, no cross-app tracking, and no selling or sharing of data for advertising. This website sets no cookies and runs no third-party scripts.

What the App Store privacy label says, matching this policy:

  • Data Not Linked to You: User Content (used for App Functionality, not stored), Photos or Videos (App Functionality, not stored, not linked) and Identifiers: Device ID (App Functionality, not linked).
  • Data Used to Track You: none.

notifications#

When your friend texts you first, that notification is scheduled locally on your device. We do not run push servers or store push tokens. You can turn notifications off anytime in your phone's Settings.

your controls#

Settings > Delete everything wipes all local data and the device identifier (a new one is created next time you use the app). Because we hold no account and no chat history, there is nothing server-side to export. For anything about a report you sent, or any other request, email support@heyfuku.com.

children#

Fuku is for ages 13 and up. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you are between 13 and the age of majority where you live, please use Fuku with a parent's permission. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us a report, email us and we will delete it.

your friend is an AI#

Your friend is an AI. Replies are generated automatically, may be wrong, and are not professional, medical, legal or crisis advice. If you are going through something hard, please reach out to a real person: in the US, call or text 988, or find a free line wherever you are at findahelpline.com.

international users, GDPR and CCPA#

We process the limited data above because it is necessary to provide the service you ask for (performance of the service), and, for abuse prevention, our legitimate interest in keeping Fuku safe and free. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your local data protection authority. California residents have the right to know, delete and correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information. Since most of your data never leaves your phone, the quickest way to exercise these rights is Delete everything; for anything else, email support@heyfuku.com. Our providers may process data in the USA.

changes#

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For material changes, we will also note it in the app.
